CBT

CBT is an evidence based psychological approach in which the interconnection between emotions, cognitions (thoughts) and behaviour is explored.

An important concept is that the way we feel and act is influenced by the way we interpret the world around us. What are the beliefs about the world, others and ourselves? Identifying thoughts and beliefs is an essential part of therapy. Discovering what contributes to unhelpful behaviour and what maintains it, is also an important part, as well as building new skills. Mind and body are connected and therapy will also focus on guiding psychical emotional responses and regulating emotions.

The aim of therapy is to change unhelpful thinking and negative core beliefs and to formulate more adaptive beliefs. Furthermore, to calm the mind by calming the body, and vice versa (mindfulness, relaxation) and to change unhelpful behaviour patterns (skills training, problem-solving, alternative coping).
